Ferruccio Resta

Chairman

Ferruccio Resta has been President of Nuclitalia since May 2025.

Since 2004 he has held the position of Full Professor of Applied Mechanics at the Politecnico di Milano, where he has also had several key governance roles. From 2017 to 2022, he served as Rector of the university and, from 2020 to 2022, as President of the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI). Previously, he headed the Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007–2016) and acted as the Rector’s Delegate for Research Enhancement and Technology Transfer (2011–2016).

He is currently President of the Politecnico di Milano Foundation, the Tech Europe Foundation, the National Center for Sustainable Mobility (MOST), and the Bruno Kessler Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Directors at Allianz S.p.A., Coima Rem S.r.l., Fiera Milano S.p.A., Zanetti S.p.A., and the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo. Furthermore, he supports the activities of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as an expert member of the Ministry’s Technical Mission Structure.

In addition to these responsibilities, he is a member of the Advisory Board of the Marcegaglia Group, through which he brings his strategic insight and experience into the industrial and technological sectors.

In 2019, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, conferred upon him the title of “Commendatore” (Commander) of the Italian Republic in recognition of his contributions to engineering and research.

His scientific work focuses on numerical and experimental research in several fields, including mobility and infrastructure, mechatronics and vibration control, monitoring and diagnostics, vehicle mechanics, energy harvesting systems and MEMS (micro-electrical management systems), as well as fluid–structure interaction (such as wind engineering and fluid dynamics). He is the holder of 10 international patents and has authored over 300 scientific papers which have appeared in national and international journals and have been presented at numerous global conferences.

He is the author of Ripartire dalla conoscenza (2021, Bollati Boringhieri), Fondamenti di Meccanica Teorica e Applicata (2003, McGraw Hill), and Controllo dei sistemi meccanici (2010, Polipress), and he continues to be actively engaged in promoting scientific and technological knowledge.

He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 1992 and obtained a PhD in Applied Mechanics in 1996.
